6 Things To Do Before Baby Comes For a Happy Mama

(1)  Sign up for your Birth Club on Babycenter.com and on Facebook!

The BabyCenter website is a fantastic fountain of information for all-things-parenting.  The BabyCenter birth boards were an essential piece of me maintaining my sanity (somewhat) during my pregnancy and post-birth stages (aka., parenting).

  • How the Birth Boards Work:

    • If you're expecting your baby in, for example, December 2023, then sign up for the "December 2023 Birth Club" where you can chat with other women from all over the world who are due in the same month as you and many of whom are going through many of the strange pregnancy things as you.  This saved my sanity during pregnancy.

(2)  Bring your own pillow to the Birthing Inn.

Make a "things to pack last minute list" and make a note to yourself to pack your own pillow when the times comes for labor and delivery.  Hospital pillows are terrible. You can read more on my passion for this at Making Labor and Delivery Easier post.

(3)  Read up on breastfeeding before the baby comes.

There is no worse time to learn about breastfeeding than when it's not working for you and you have a screaming, hungry, newborn in your arms.  Read up on breastfeeding ahead of time.

(4)  Meet and choose your Pediatrician before the baby comes.

You're going to have your hands tied once the baby comes, and there is nothing worse than not having a good feeling about your pediatrician.  Do this ahead of time. Read more about this on the post: Why It's Important to Choose a Pediatrician BEFORE Baby Comes.

(5)  Read a funny pregnancy book.

If you're sick of the tone of "What to Expect When You're Expecting," pick up a funny pregnancy book to lighten your mood. My personal favorites are The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy, by Vicki Iovine, and Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth about Pregnancy and Childbirth, by Jenny McCarthy.

(6)  Buy the Doona Stroller and Car Seat Combo

This car seat stroller will save your sanity, and you will not know how people have babies without it.  No, I do not work for or get paid by Doona. This is seriously my favorite baby product in the world.  This is listed as one of our favorite items on Top 25 Must-Have Newborn and Baby Items.
